So, a Bellingen Wedding may actually be my new favourite. I’m serious! A short 5 hour drive from Brisbane (hello epic playlists!) and you’re in this town that is a mix of Byron, Bangalow, Nimbin except somehow even more awesome.
Or it could have been Emma and Jolly.
They’re the real deal.
My day started as I photographed around Emma’s grandparents farm and there was a 4WD that came screeching to a halt behind me and this gorgeous brunette ran from the car to the house and we were off. Emma had arrived.
Their families contributed in a million ways – from Jolly’s mum driving Emma to the ceremony in the car she has had since she was 16, Aunties doing up Jolly’s buttonholes, to Emma’s sisters adjusting her dress before she set off to marry her love.
The weather threatened to pour the entire afternoon complete with concerned aunties using Rain Parrot to find out when we should be doing family photos (I don’t think we’ve ever done them faster) and ducking and hiding under the magnificent old trees to stay dry during portraits. Emma and Jolly were chilled out and laughing through the excitement and it was the best feeling ever.
The way these two look at each other and laugh, you can tell that they’ve both found home. Their vows were beautiful – all about how they’ve grown to be the best kinds of people because of the other.
Emma’s dad passed away several years ago, but he was there in spirit as the wedding ring that Jolly now wears on his finger is the very same that Emma’s dad wore. Story after story of family history being woven together is part of what makes a day so special.
I love days like this.
